I'm really bad at titles

I always have so much in my head that I never know where to start.  I do know I have a pattern of saying I fell off my diet and now I'm back.  Its true every time too!  I always feel pretty bad about it too.  Honestly, I'm human and I'm a pretty average human at that.  Eating healthy is hard and making time to exercise is hard.  Losing weight is hard.  I know I'm not going to be perfect all the time, and that's okay.  I think if I can start being on my healthy eating kicks for longer between my diet collapse I will have made progress.  The fact that I'm still interested in doing it and still interested in working out is progress.  I'm proud of myself for continuing to do this even though I'm not seeing results on the scale.  I am feeling the results.  When I first started I struggled to get through 10 biceps curls with 10 pound weights, and now they are easier.  I'm not quite ready to up weight or repetition, but there has...

Try, Try Again

I have been awful about posting lately.  Life happened which makes it hard to write more than just a quick line.  First, I thought I would take the time to give an update on my knee.  After being sick my for a week and a half my knee wasn't bothering me at all, probably because I laid in bed not moving.  I was also taking prednisone, which is a steroid that helps with inflammation.  I started back on a good exercise routine last week and didn't have too many problems with my knee.  All in all I think my knee is getting stronger and can handle more.  However, I finally over did it.  I upped the weight I used on my leg exercises on Sunday, and I was a little sore yesterday and today.  My knee was still a little on the sore side today, but nothing out of ordinary.  I decided to try and walk without my knee brace on, and now I'm paying the price.  The pain isn't unexpected.  My physical therapist warned me that this might happen....

The Hungry

I've made it about two weeks into my diet.  Things were going really well until The Hungry struck.   The Hungry can strike at any time and when it happens I can throw my diet out the window.  How can you tell The Hungry from regular food cravings?  Scenario number 1: I'm sitting on the couch and I want some chocolate.  I eat a piece of chocolate, and the craving goes away.  Scenario number 2:  I'm sitting on the couch and I want some chocolate.  I eat a piece of chocolate and the craving doesn't go away.  I eat something really good for me and I still feel like there is a pit in my stomach.  I try fruit, lean protein, veggies, fiber, all the things that should kill a craving, but nothing helps.  I finally give in and eat 25 hot wings, chocolate cake, almonds, a jar of nutella (you get the idea).  I feel satisfied.  Then an hour or two later The Hungry hits again. The Hungry is not appeased by one binge eating se...

An Exciting New Name

It turns out I'm pretty awful at naming things.  I have been pondering for an hour over what I should name this blog.  Health and Life is a good name, but a common one.  I even looked up this wonderful website on how to name your blog.  I managed to take up a whole piece of paper with a lot of phrases that don't make any sense or have no relatedness to my blog.  I think my favorite name is "The Afflicted Scientist", but outside of the afflicted part I can't make it relate.  For now, Health and Life will remain my blog name. As far as weekly progress goes I suspect I will meet two of my goals.  I have done my leg strengthening exercises three days, and I have tracked using Lose It!every day.  I almost didn't track Lose It! today because I thought I would go over on calories.  Going over on calories is not a good reason to not track.  I entered in everything and was only about 20 calories over, so it really wasn't bad.
