Cosplay Time!

Ah, my neglected blog. I find that it is around this time of year I begin to miss writing.  Probably not coincidental that it is close to DragonCon time.  I have spent the last couple of days browsing Pinterest, Imgur, and Google looking for cosplay inspiration.  I can never find anything that has my exact vision.  Maybe that is one of the reasons I like cosplay so much.  I am not great at drawing or other artistic things, but I can craft.  Through crafting I can create my"artwork".  Perhaps not.  It is just super fun to cosplay!

Last year I really did not do much with cosplay.  I have gained a significant amount of weight over the last few years, and I have let that impact my life.  There have been several things I have not done because of my weight and cosplay is one of those things.  I am both trying to lose weight and change that mindset.  Neither of those are easy tasks.  I have tried several different methods of losing weight (Weight Watchers, calorie counting, other fad diets), but I think using the LoseIt app works best for me.  I am my biggest enemy when it comes to weight loss. I have a lot of mental crap I have to get past to really lose the weight.  I digress.  This post is about cosplay.

This year I am doing 2-3 cosplays at DragonCon.  Cosplay one is going to be from Fallout 4.  I am going to build the clean room suit.

I work in a facility that makes poultry vaccines and we actually use clean room suits, so I have an easy base to work from.  There are some key differences from our suit to the Fallout 4 suit.
  1. Color: Our suits and VERY white. I'm keeping it simple to update the colors.  First I will try spray paint and if I can't achieve the color or stability (no paint flaking off) with that, then I will try other fabric dyes and paints.  Hopefully I can achieve the color with spray paint though.
  2. Fit: Fallout 4 has a very nice, very fitted suit.  The suit I am building from is not fitted...at all.  I will basically be chopping it apart and re-sewing to make it fitted.
  3. Accessories: The suit I am working from is just a suit.  There are no attachments.  It is  a plain, standard clean room suit.  I will have to add the orange highlights, the rubber ventilator attachments, and the plastic front pocket.
When I actually begin the build I will get photos of me in the suit and upload.  Hopefully I will look like the Fallout 4 character once finished.

Cosplay two will be an updated version of my fairy costume.  This one will be harder to hit the details of what I am changing since I don't really have a before picture of it.  The fairy is the original creation that I can't draw, paint, or sculpt.  I work with the idea that is in my head and build it to make my "art".  I will post photos of that once I start as well.

Cosplay three (if done) is really just a chance to wear the con-swag I have collected over the years.  Its a chance to wear my corsets, skirts, and accessories.  I already own all the parts so it will just be combining them in pleasing way.

Now, I'm off to clean the house...something I have been putting off for far too long.  I will create and upload photos once I begin the build on all the costumes.

Finding a Hobby

Being an adult is hard.  I find that most days I feel unsatisfied with my life.  I often think back to being in my early twenties and romanticize the time.  Logically I know I was horribly depressed through most of it, but I still find myself longing for the days.  I have a good life now, but sometimes its hard to see because I get so bogged down in the day-to-day.  Partially that is because I have let what is important slip away for what is easy. I miss the how busy I stayed.  I miss how social I was.  At one point when I was therapy, I created a life goal plan.  I'm not sure if that is the actual name of it.  Basically, I listed things that were important and why they were important and then I listed how I would achieve those things on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.  I may find that useful to do again, but that is not what I am doing today. Most days I come home and immediately turn on the tv.  I watch a few hours of TV a...

Busy, Busy, Busy

This weekend has been just full of things going on.  My plan when I left class Friday was to clean up and do lots of homework, but so far that hasn't really happened.  I've worked everyday, and work has been super busy, so I've been very tired when I get home.  My Dad came up for a visit on Saturday.  We went to Helen for drinks; it was a blast.  There is a club in Helen I plan on checking out soon.  Yay, something to do, Finally!!!!!  Working out hasn't happened.  I'm going to try to get in a kettlebell workout today before work.  I was going to go jogging yesterday, but Brent didn't get off work until very late so I couldn't use his treadmill.  I've always been eating like there's no tomorrow.  All in all, not a healthy weekend.  This morning I decided to go for baked apples.  Turns out that all the recipes for them are really really bad for you.  I tweaked it a little bit, so hopefully it won't be as bad.  I...

An Exciting New Name

It turns out I'm pretty awful at naming things.  I have been pondering for an hour over what I should name this blog.  Health and Life is a good name, but a common one.  I even looked up this wonderful website on how to name your blog.  I managed to take up a whole piece of paper with a lot of phrases that don't make any sense or have no relatedness to my blog.  I think my favorite name is "The Afflicted Scientist", but outside of the afflicted part I can't make it relate.  For now, Health and Life will remain my blog name. As far as weekly progress goes I suspect I will meet two of my goals.  I have done my leg strengthening exercises three days, and I have tracked using Lose It!every day.  I almost didn't track Lose It! today because I thought I would go over on calories.  Going over on calories is not a good reason to not track.  I entered in everything and was only about 20 calories over, so it really wasn't bad.
