Yoga and Running

This is an exciting post for me.  First and the most exciting: I RAN!!!!  I didn't run for long or hard, but I did run.  There is a park not too far from my house, so I decided it was time to try it.  I put on my knee brace, leashed one of my dogs, and I went.  I walked for the first few minutes and then I got a nice jog pace going.  I switched off between jogging and walking.  I didn't really time the intervals I just went until I got too tired/out-of-breath/sore to keep running and then I switched to walking.  And it was wonderful!  Of course, I had to measure it because sometimes they day of isn't the problem and it is the day after that causes the pain.  Fortunately for me I had no real pain on either day.

Today I finally decided to try yoga.  I had done yoga once before but came home with a herniated disc, so I wasn't fan.  Several of the doctors recommended yoga, so I tried it.  The teacher was great.  She was confident and quiet and was able to give each student specialized attention.  She helped me correct poses several times and showed me the easier version of the ones I could not do.  The ladies in the class were also quite nice.  Everyone was chatty beforehand but serious during class.  I thoroughly enjoyed myself and do plan on going back.

Finally, the last news I have.  I lost 3 pounds!  I had gotten up to 160, but now I'm down to 157.  Yay for me!

Mental Illness Awareness

I decided I would start the mental health awareness thing.  My plan is to post something regarding mental health on a weekly basis.  I will post things on this blog, Facebook, Tumblr, and Instagram.  I will either post something relating to mental health (stats, helplines, videos, or answers to the questionnaire I created.  I don't know that I will accomplish anything, but if I each even one person then I have accomplished something.  Today's item is from the National Alliance on Mental Illness.  The image I have is poor quality.  There is a pdf, but I can't upload a pdf.  Here is the link to the image for better quality:  NAMI Mental Health Fact Sheet

Update on Finding a Hobby

A few months ago I posted about trying to find a hobby.  I honestly haven't made much progress on that.  I thought this week with my time off would be a good time to really start exploring some of those things.  I decided to start by reviewing the original list and updating it/narrowing it down some.  The original post and list can be found here . After reviewing it, I have narrowed it down further from 25 to 10. I have also made some notes on a few of them. Archery - I like the idea of this, but I think it is a really expensive hobby.  I'm leaving it on the list for now, but I don't know if it will ever happen. Board Games/Gaming - I'm combining this one with Entertaining, because for me these two go together.  I think I will try to start up a monthly game night.  People can come over to our place and we will play games and hang out.  Dancing - I could start belly dancing again.  Lessons are still ongoing. Hiking-Yes, I miss hikin...

This Week

I talked about The Hungry in my last post.  Due to having The Hungry last week, this week is going to be hard.  I feel like I am starting over again; which, in a way, I am.  I don't have significant weight loss from week to week so anytime I go off track I either gain it back or if I'm lucky I will maintain.  I'm not going to weigh myself tomorrow.  I will wait until August to do it.  I am giving myself more time to lose weight and adjust to eating more healthy and less calories.  Earlier tonight I was pretty frustrated because if I was able to run I would have almost zero consequences for eating how I did this week.  Unfortunately I am still unable to run due to my knee condition.  My knee has improved so I have hope that I will be able to run again, but waiting is awful!  I hate being injured!  However, improvement is improvement and I will take what I can get.  I was able to go for a walk tonight (almost 1 mile!) and my ...
