Good Morning World!
I've been in a pretty big funk lately. I guess that is what I can call it. It has been a weird one. I will be fine and then suddenly I hate everything. Today I'm feeling pretty good, which is great because I have a lot to get done.
My ankle has mostly recovered. I started running again this week. I could barely make 1/2 a mile without being winded though. Its amazing how much being out for just a few weeks will put you behind. I ended up hiking for 2 hours this week just to get a good burn in since I couldn't run. I'm one of those ridiculously stubborn people and when I can't run I just don't exercise. I tried looking up exercises to do with a sprained ankle, but I did not do them. I hate doing exercise unless its the exact exercise I want to do at the time.
I got a new pair of running shoes to start with too. I got the Saucony Peregrine. Before I get into the shoes, let me tell you a little about my running style. I prefer trail running to road running. I get bored easily and the trails keep me entertained. The trails I run on are pretty well laid out, but there are still lots of little ups and downs, tree roots, rocks, and bogs. I am working on doing my first 5K, but I have not signed up for one yet. Every time I get close to running one I hurt myself. Also, I over pronate. BAD. When I went to the running store, they did the gait analysis on me and it looked like I was running on my ankles. No wonder I hurt myself so much!
After the gait analysis I decided to look at both full support shoes and trail shoes which don't really give much in range for full support. I tried on about 10 different pairs and narrowed it down to 2 pairs. The Saucony Peregrine and a full support shoe that I can now not remember the name of. Overall I like the Peregrine. Its a good, very stable shoe. It grips the trail very well. I can trot through a bog on a hill and not slide. There is one downside to the grippiness: the shoes have zero bounce. While the shoes aren't particularly heavy I feel like I'm doing extra work to propel myself forward because of the lack of bounce. I think this is fairly common in trail shoes however. They really aren't made to bounce. They are made to grip and keep you from sliding off the trail and hurting yourself. Overall, I give these shoes a 7/10 for my running style.
On a completely different note: I hate diets. I'm still signed up for weight watchers, but haven't really been sticking to the plan. I fell of the weight watchers train and I have been struggling to get back on board. Luckily, I have held steady in my weight up to this point, but if I keep slipping I'm going to start gaining all the weight back. I've got to force myself to get back on track!!!
